4.   THE CHURCH

The Apostles’ Creed

A creed – is a set of belief which guide someone actions

The apostle creed outlines the truth of Christian faith

It contains teaching that guides us on the way we should live as Christians

 I believe in God, the father Almighty

Creator of Heaven and EATH

And Jesus Christ, His only son Our Lord

Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Born by the Virgin Mary

He was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell.

On the third day. He rose again from the dead

He ascended into heaven

And is seated at the right hand of God the father,

He will come to judge the living and the dead

I believe in the Holy Spirit

The holy Catholic Church

The communion of saints

The Forgiveness of sins

The resurrection of the body

And the life Everlasting

Teachings outlined from the apostle creed

The apostle Creed teaches us that there is ONE God who is the father

It also teachers that church is a universal

It helps Christians to affirm their faith in God

It teachers us that the holy trinity is made up of the father the son and the Holy Spirit

CHRISTIAN SUFFERING

Learners in groups and in turns read the Christian suffering from the book of 2 Corinthians 6: 3-7 and discuss in class

Paul teaches Christian to accept and endure suffering because it strengths their faith in Christ

From the teaching of Paul on Christian suffering we learn values such us;

When Christian suffer, they share in the suffering of Jesus Christ

Christian should persist in prayer to overcome various challenges Jesus suffers by dying on the cross to relieve Christians from the bondage of sins.

CHURCH UNITY

Church unity is the coming together of the church of Christ.

Jesus Christ called peter the rock onto which he would build a church that no gate of hell would overcome

Participating in church activities promote church unity and togetherness

This promote peaceful co- existence among church members in the society 

The church demonstrate unity by sharing the word of God and praying together

Church unity foster peaceful co –existence by helping the needy and teaching the people to develop peace by spreading the value of peace to members

GOOD CITIZENSHIP 

A citizen is a person who, by place of birth, nationality of one or both parents, or naturalization is granted full rights and responsibilities as a member of a nation or political community

Citizenship – is the legal right of an individual to belong to a given country 

The bible teaches us that good citizens should be submissive to the authority, 

He/ she must endeavour to do well and not to cover any evil but expose it

He or she must owner God and remain patriotic to his own country

He or she must respect everyone and love others

Christians can live Godly lives on earth by honouring and respecting the authority and promoting peace in various ways

Interpersonal relationships among Christians

People relate to each other in various ways.

We relate as church members, school members etc

Good interpersonal relationship promote peace in the society

Christian should relate well with each

Christians should love and help each other regardless of diversity They should participate in activities that promote peace and unity in the society

Apostle peter teaches that Christians should do their work not for payment

Church service and work shouldn’t be done at a cost but one should have the real desire to serve

Christians should receive the glorious crown that will not fade if they relate to each other, 

The young people should respect the elders

Christians should ever remain humbled for God will lift the in His own time

Good interpersonal relationships among Christians can be promoted by moral values such as

In groups learners read in turns the book of 1 peter 5:1-11 and narrate the story in their own words

Peter urged the elders of the church as an elder himself and the partake in future that is to come, he asked the elders to take care of their church members

He said that they should not do it as if someone os forcing them rather they should do it willingly

He also said that the elders should not do the work of care- giving merely for the profit that comes with the office but rather do it eagerly

He also urged the elders not to lord themselves over the followers but they should serve as a role model to the flock

CHRISTIAN LIVING

During the ministries of Jesus Christ he taught us about the need of loving each other

Christians should have godly friendship so as to always have someone who can encourage, uplift and correct them

They can also have someone who challenges the to go deeper in matters relating to God

Godly friendship helps friends to help each other grow in their values and glorify God

Jesus teachers that greatest love a person can have for his friends

Importance of learning human sexuality

It helps Christians to retain and respect themselves because it’s the place where God stays

Christians accept changes that took place in adolescence  Note: in groups learners use digital devices to watch videos on the importance of learning about sexuality and discuss in class We should learn about human sexuality because it empowers young people to make informed decisions about relationships and sexuality Learning sexuality addresses the health and well-being of children and young people

The bible teachers us to avoid immorality because any other sin we does not affect our bodies but when we commit sexual immorality we sin against our own bodies

Irresponsible sexual behaviour is caused by 

  • Poverty
  • Alcohol
  • Lack of assertiveness 
  • Negative peer pressure

Sanctity of Life

Human life is sacred and we should respect it

No one should take away human life

Practices that violate the rights to life for human being include

Killing

Abortion

Terrorism

Suicide

Violation of the right to life cause death, conflict, suffering and stress

We should value the gift of the life and ensure every human being enjoys it

A virtue is a behaviour or attitude that shows high moral standard

Some of the virtues that can be practised to maintain sanctity of life are

Tolerance

Forgiveness

Reconciliation

Humility

DRUGS AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE

A DRUG substance that when take it alters the proper functioning of the body organs

Leaners make posters creating awareness to stop drug abuse

Some commonly abused drugs in the society are

We should live a life from harmful substance and maintain good health

Learners should always take care of their bodies by avoiding harmful substance

Christians use many strategies to prevent drugs and substances use

Some of the strategies include:

Educating young people through church program on dangers of the drugs and substances use

The government ministries, the commonly and organisation like National Agency for the campaign Against Drug Abuse (NACADA) are working to fight drug trafficking and abuse Measures taken by government agencies to fight drugs trafficking and use include:

Giving stiff penalties to drug traffickers and restricting supply of drugs

Creating awareness on dangers of drugs use through radio television and social media
