INSTRUCTIONS TO THE TEACHER
(a) This paper consists of one performance task.

Task: Making a functional simple distillation apparatus.

(b) The learners to carry out the task.
(c) The teacher to guide learners in selecting appropriate tools, materials, equipment, and digital devices for carrying out the project.
(d) The learners should be encouraged to use locally available resources as much as possible.
(e) The teacher should ensure that the learners observe safety measures and precautions while using the various tools, materials, equipment, and digital devices.
(f) The task to be performed in groups of 5 to 8.
(g) The learners may share tools, materials, equipment, and digital devices where applicable.
(h) The teacher will use the scoring guide provided to assess group performance of the project.
(i) The teacher will use the group’s score as the individual learner’s score.
(j) The teacher will enter the project’s marks in the score sheet provided.
(k) The teacher will enter the project’s marks in the assessment sheet as task

TASK: MAKING A FUNCTIONAL SIMPLE DISTILLATION APPARATUS. GRADE 7 SCIENCE PROJECT 2023

(a) Individually, learners to source for information from textbooks, resource persons, parents or guardians, digital devices, and the internet among others on how to make a functional simple distillation apparatus.
(b) Individually, learners to take short notes, draw and label a simple distillation apparatus.
(c) In groups of 5 to 8, learners to share information collected and discuss how to make a simple distillation apparatus.
(d) Learners to identify the materials they will require to make a functional simple distillation apparatus.
(e) Learners to make a functional simple distillation apparatus using the materials identified.
(f) Learners to display their finished product (a functional simple distillation apparatus).
(g) Learners to observe and comment or reflect on their peers’ work and make suggestions for improvement.
(h) The teacher to assess the suitability and durability of the simple distillation apparatus.
(i) The teacher to orally ask the learners to identify parts of the functional simple distillation apparatus.
(j) The teacher to orally ask the learners to describe to other learners the functions of the various parts of the simple distillation apparatus

(k) The teacher to orally ask learners to explain how the simple distillation apparatus works.
NOTE: The teacher should assess the task right from the start using the scoring guide provided.
